The “.au namespace” domain extension or “second level name” will become available from the 24th March 2022. The release of .AU will allow businesses to register additional domains to sit alongside their existing .com.au or .net.au domains.
Why Would I Want a .AU domain ?
- a wider choice of available names in the trusted Australian domain
- allowing businesses to register shorter, more memorable online names
- providing names that are easier to type and display on mobile devices.
- Prevent competitors from registering names similar to yours
How Do I Register a .AU Domain ?
Registration will begin with a priority allocation period that opens in March 2022 and will remain in place for 6 months. During this time businesses who have an existing .com.au or .net.au domain can apply for the new equivalent .au domain. eg. if you own mywebsite.com.au, then you will be able to apply for mywebsite.au during the priority period. Application and ongoing registrations will be advised as the launch date gets closer.
Further details will be provided nearer to March 2022. In the meantime, for more information about the new .AU namespace, go to the AUDA website.
